If you’ve been in the market to upgrade your smartphone, might we suggest you wait just a little longer? There are some amazing technological advances on the horizon that are worth waiting for and it would be a downer if you were to get trapped into a two-year contract before you see what’s coming next. The two latest trends that we’re looking forward to are 5G connectivity and foldable designs, which are going to be big game-changers in the coming year.

Whether you’re looking for longer battery life, to up your photography game, or appreciate high-resolution full-display screens, there’s a new phone coming out next year that’ll scratch your new phone itch:

1. Microsoft Andromeda

Microsoft’s long-rumored device, the Andromeda, has been speculated to be released in 2020. It belongs to the Surface family of devices and it will have two screens that can fold. It will have a flexible hinge that will allow the two screens to fold to form a laptop, tablet, or triangular compositions. This device is designed to be more of a personal digital assistant and it enables users to work more quickly and efficiently than the average smartphone does.

2. Apple iPhone X Fold

It was only a matter of time before Apple went after the impending foldable smartphone market, right? The iPhone X Fold concept includes an external full screen cover and the inside has a flexible display that transforms into an 8.3-inch tablet when unfolded, making it larger than the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

3. Xiaomi Mi 10

Due in February of 2020, the successor to the Mi 9 family is bound to create a huge buzz. This new smartphone will include next-generation Snapdragon 865 octa-core processor with built-in Adreno 730 graphics, boosting both general and gaming performance. It will include a choice of 8GD or 12GB of memory and 256GB or 512GB of storage, which is quite an improvement from their current storage for the Mi 9. It’s rumored to be 5G-supported version of Mi 10, especially since its release date is closer to the widespread release of 5G networks.

4. Nokia 10

Nokia is preparing to pull out all the stops with this photography-focused smartphone. It’s been rumored that this phone will come with 6 cameras and an LED flash. This device will be a photographers dream come true. It packs two 12MP RBG sensors, two 12MP monochrome sensors, a 6K video camera, and an ultra-wide lens with a 130° field. We’re expecting that all 6 cameras will be able to shoot at once, capturing enough information for users to adjust the photo after its taken. The Nokia 10 will come with a 6.4-inch display with a 1440p resolution, a step up from its predecessor, the Nokia 9.

5. Samsung Galaxy F 2

Samsung introduced a foldable variant of this device in 2019 and they’re already gearing up for a second-generation version in 2020. The good people at Google have been developing an Android OS specifically for foldable interfaces, leading the current trend of foldable devices. There were a few problems with its first iteration and we’re expecting the display to be improved, especially the current transparent plastic polyimide protective layer on the display with a scratch-resistant ultra-thin glass, so as it doesn’t get damaged while opening and closing the device.
